We have learned that a wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against the NorthPark Center. The suit alleges that the popular shopping spot has become a playground for joyriders who “recklessly drift cars” through the mall’s parking garages.
On March 11, Yu Luo and Shiguo Wang, two close friends, were visiting the shopping center. Luo was an athlete and owner of several sporting goods stores. Wang was a tech executive. The lawsuit claims that another man, Christopher Shaw, was driving a 2007 Dodge Charger and making a “high-speed run” from the ground floor of the parking garage to the roof when he struck both Luo and Wang.
The impact threw Luo against a parking garage wall and killed him. Wang was thrown over the edge of the garage and fell two stories. He is still hospitalized at the time of this writing.
Shaw is on trial awaiting charges of manslaughter and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The lawsuit filed on behalf of Luo blames NorthPark for allowing the parking garages to become “natural attractions for joyriders.” The family has asked the shopping center to close their parking lots for an entire year.
