Grand Prairie is mourning the loss of Susan Simpson Hull, Grand Prairie ISD’s Superintendent. While Superintendent Hull was vacationing in Arizona in July, she died after being involved in a motorcycle accident. Superintendent Hull was driving the motorcycle at the time of the accident. No other vehicles were involved. She was the Superintendent of Grand Prairie ISD for 12 years. Dallas ISD trustee and Commissioner Mike Morath issued a statement praising Hull as “…a teacher’s teacher and an admired champion for educational excellence, who had an unwavering dedication to improving the lives of every student she touched. Texas education will not be the same without her.”

Texas Motorcyclists Should Know What to Do After an Accident

The Law Office of Julie Johnson extends its deepest condolences to Superintendent Hull’s family and to the entire Grand Prairie community. She truly was an asset to everyone and a beloved and respected community member. Although her motorcycle accident happened in Arizona while she was on vacation and did not involve any other vehicle, many Texas motorcycle accidents involve other vehicles. It’s important that those who love to ride know what to do if they’re ever involved in a motorcycle accident.

Call 911. Even if you don’t think you’re seriously injured, you could have internal injuries that don’t provide immediate signs. Calling 911 will dispatch both the police as well as an ambulance. After you’re assessed by paramedics, you can decide if you should go to the emergency room via ambulance or if you should go to urgent care or make an immediate appointment with your doctor.

Let the police help you exchange information with any other involved party. Also, be careful with what you say to the police and to the other involved party. Even seemingly harmless comments that we’re all taught to say out of social politeness, such as “I’m sorry,” can be used against you later.

If possible, take immediate photos of the accident scene. If you’re able to do so without hurting yourself and if your cell phone isn’t damaged, take immediate photos of the damage to your motorcycle, any other vehicle, and the scene. These images may be helpful if you file a claim with the insurance company or file a lawsuit against the other party.

Talk with an experienced Texas motorcycle accident lawyer. Most Texas motorcycle accidents are not the fault of the motorcyclist, but the insurance company may not be inclined to treat you fairly. An experienced motorcycle accident lawyer can help you negotiate with the insurance company and help you protect your potential legal rights.
